K&WVR Diesel Locomotive Hauled Services 2016

Diesel Locomotive Hauled Services 2016

by news@kwvr
Introduced in 2015, the Railway operated diesel locomotive hauled trains, as well as steam hauled services, ALL DAY on a number of Saturdays from April through to August to compensate for the withdrawal of the diesel gala. This was deemed a great success and the Railway is pleased to repeat the exercise for this year, and for an additional month.
We will be running diesel locomotive hauled trains ALL DAY on the last Saturday of each month, 30th April, 28th May (Real Ale Trail Event), 25th June, 30th July, 27th August and 24th September
This service operates in addition to the steam train service. Starting at 09.00 from Oxenhope, the train offers 6 round trips of the line, finishing back at Oxenhope at 17.25.
In addition, large Diesels will also be used on some morning services in May and October and D0226 will haul  a selection of morning diesel services on some Sundays May - September.
June sees the entry into service of our new Class 08 shunter, 08 993 and to mark the occasion there will be 08 hauled passenger services on the 18th June.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 19th & 20th March 2016

by news@kwvr
Firstly an apology for the omission of a roster announcement last week, the jungle telegraph was not at its best. USATC S160 2-8-0 5820 was at the head of the steam service and will once again be in action this weekend.
The diesel service will once again see railbus M79964 operating the diesel services.
It will soon be Easter when two steam train services operate on all 4 days of the Easter weekend. Anyone looking for the first timetabled outing for TVR 0-6-2T 85, keep an eye out for the second week of the Easter holiday, more on this in a few weeks time.

K&WVR Locomotive Roster for Weekend 5th & 6th March 2016

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 5th & 6th March 2016

by news@kwvr
The general consensus for the Winter Steam Gala is that, despite the setbacks with visiting and home fleet locomotives, the crews and staff of the Railway put on a fantastic show with good attendances and loads of happy faces around the line.
The locomotive for this weekend is uncertain depending on the outcome of current work on 2 locomotives. BR 5MT 4-6-0 75078 was withdrawn from the Gala, having failed its boiler test. However the problem has potentially been resolved and if the subsequent boiler test is successful, 75078 will be the train locomotive on Saturday and Sunday.
To add to the mix, the potential replacement, should 75078 require further work, is MR 4F 0-6-0 43924 but this locomotive returned from the Gala requiring some remedial attention which may be completed before the weekend. USATC S160 5820 will be on standby should none of the repairs be completed in time. The situation is fluid and whichever locomotive is rostered on the day the crews will put on a good show for all our visitors.
Once again the diesel service will be in the hands of  diesel railbus M79964.
Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Sadly 75078 could not be with the railway for the
winter steam gala but here a reminder of what a
superb engine this is.
