Embsay Bolton Abbey Railway a scene from the past
Like a scene from the past as the coach awaits its
passengers to visit those out of the way places
We remember such train and coach trips well
They were common to the dales and Highlands along
with the Welsh mountains.
Thank goodness we have preserved such living
history for the young one of this modern world

Riddles WD 90733 out of service
Sadly it has been necessary to withdraw Dub Dee
90733 a little early due to leaking firs tubes.
Due for withdrawal in 2017 after 10 years service, WD 2-8-0 90733 had been granted an extension to its boiler certificate to allow further use well into 2018, with a final withdrawal date set as 6th April
However, despite being given an extension to its boiler ticket, following its last Santa Steam Special turn it was discovered that a couple of the small tubes had developed cracking. With a limited time in traffic and unable to justify the cost of repairs, the Locomotive Department reluctantly decided that it would not be economical to do a repair for the sake of a few more days running. It also means that its appearance at the 2018 Spring Gala will now not be its final appearance at a KWVR Gala, the 2017 Winter Steam gala now holds that honor.
Overhaul of L&Y 957 underway
We are now well underway with the overhaul of
Lancashire and Yorkshire Railways Ironclad 957
I am leading the work on the bottom end with my
colleague Ralph Ingham looking after the boiler.
We have a very good team working on the engine
and the Trustees representative Mike Curtis is
busy with all, the Wed gang and Sat gang
Haworth Shed week before Christmas
We now have a new shed roof at Haworth. Below
Black five 44071
It is amazing how dark the shed has become over
the years since the new shed was built. Now very
bright and clean. We shall be fitting new exhauster
fans for engines in steam.
Above Class 4 75078 and my colleagues Tim Hanson
and Derrick Begg
Hopefully the exhauster fans will help keep the
new roof clean and shed light and airy.
K&WVR Locomotive Roster Mince Pie Specials, Boxing Day – 1st January 2018
Locomotive Roster Mince Pie Specials, Boxing Day – 1st January 2018by news@kwvr |
The final weekend of our Santa Steam Specials has now passed and the season came to its climax with the final trains on Christmas Eve with LMS 5MT 4-6-0 44871 taking Santa on his final journeys before he disappeared to prepare for his big night ahead.
Steam returns on Boxing Day with the ever popular Mince Pie Specials, which last year produced the perfect weather for winter photographs, although this year, the weather has, in the main, been kind to our visitors. Boxing day will see four round trips with 44871 which will continue daily through to 1st January 2018.
Intending passengers should note that it is pay-on-the-day on the Mince Pie Specials and certain departures can get very full.

Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.
