Duchess and 41241 and the 957 team
We had a little chat too
Frome left to right are Jacob Halliday, Mark Lane,
Ralph Ingham, Anthony Bainbridge and myself
Philip Shackleton with Noel Hartley our operations
manager extreme left. Ralph Ingham and myself are
leading the team overhauling L&Y 957. Ralph
leading the work on the boiler and myself
leading on the bottom end, frames, wheels,
running gear etc.
The Duchess was interested in the work on 957 as
the Railway Children is a favorite film. HRH then
traveled to Oxenhope in the Old Gentleman's saloon,
hauled that day by Taff Vale 85 driver Dave Coates
and fireman Fran Hartley.
K&WVR Royal Visit in Pictures
Royal Visit in Picturesby news@kwvr |
Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall visited the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway on Friday the 16th February as part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations of the railway re-opening during 1968 and the achievements made by volunteers during this time.
During the visit, that took place mid-afternoon on the 16th, Her Royal Highness visited the locomotive maintenance facility in Haworth and met a new generation of volunteers, plus others of more mature stature, working on steam locomotive restorations. The Duchess then travelled by a steam hailed train hauled, appropriately, by Taff Vale Railway no. 85 to Oxenhope in the Old Gentlemen's Saloon featured in the classic film 'The Railway Children'.
The visit was highly successful and below is a sample of the photographs of this historic visit with the full collection in Flickr >>>
K&WVR ‘Oliver Cromwell’ set for Spring Steam Gala
‘Oliver Cromwell’ set for Spring Steam Galaby news@kwvr |
We have previously announced that two locomotives will be visiting the KWVR for our Spring Steam Gala on March 9th - 11th - SDJR 7F 2-8-0 53808 and LMS 'Black 5' 4-6-0 44871 - but now it is THREE!.
We're delighted to announce a third locomotive, and arguably the most prestigious, subject to final contact, BR 'Britannia' Class 7MT 70013 'Oliver Cromwell'. 'Cromwell' will arrive via our mainline connection and comes courtesy of the National Railway Museum and 5305 Locomotive Association, who are custodians of the locomotive.
As seen in the photographs in this post, 70013 last visited in February 2009 and this will be its last appearances before withdrawal for overhaul.
Three visiting locomotives plus the home fleet will result in one our biggest visiting locomotive line ups ever! Surely a perfect way to kick-start our 50th Anniversary celebration and we are sure you will all agree and support the Railway in this great 2018 Gala.

Keighley Worth Valley Railway, Royal visitor
Her Royal Highness traveled through the beautiful Yorkshire countryside to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway to celebrate 50 years since it reopened, after its initial closure in 1961.
The heritage line now welcomes over 120,000 tourists and enthusiasts, with volunteers vital to its success. The Duchess met a number of volunteers who have been restoring engines – projects that are being used to help transfer heritage skills to younger trainee engineers.
Her Royal Highness was then treated to a ride on board locomotive 'No.85', travelling inside Saloon 21661 which is best known as the 'Old Gentlemen's Saloon' in the classic film, The Railway Children, which was filmed on this Yorkshire line.
Many thanks to Tim Rooke for the above picture.
I met with the Duchess at the yards at Haworth.

Once again many thanks to Tim Rook and the

The Royal Train with Passengers departs Haworth

The train was made up of Taff Vale Railway No 85
Lancashire and Yorkshire Railways six wheeler with
the Observation saloon in the rear. In the film of the
Railway Children this was referred to as the
'Old Man's Saloon'
My good friend and colegue Dave Coats and his
team were responsible for the restoration of this
very lovely engine of which I have had the
pleasure of helping with one or two bits
and pieces post restoration.
One of his team Derick Ostick
assisted Dave yesterday for its royal
role. You will note the four headlamp code
of such a royal train.
Dave's fireman was Fran Hartley
who is the Fireman training officer of
the railway

K&WVR Locomotive Roster for Weekend 10th & 11th and Weekdays 12th – 16th February 2018
Locomotive Roster for Weekend 10th & 11th and Weekdays 12th – 16th February 2018by news@kwvr |
Firstly an apology for the lack of a notification of the roster for last weekend. With maintenance being carried out on the original rostered locomotive still ongoing, it was not possible to determine the engine in time to send out a post and it was an 11th hour decision to use Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078 in its stead.
No such problems (hopefully) this week with TVR Class o2 0-6-2T no. 85 rostered for a 4 coach set Saturday, right through to Friday with mid-week running on the timetable for the schools' half term. The Saturday morning and all day Sunday diesel service will be in the hands of our diesel railbus M79964.
With Paddington arriving on the Railway Wednesday and Thursday, there will be a 2 train steam service Wednesday - Friday. Unfortunately the second locomotive has not been determined as this notification goes out. Keep an eye out on the website and social media for updates.
For the timetables in operation this weekend, please click HERE to visit the main website.
Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.
