GNR (LNER) and L&Y Express locomotives

Originally designed and built by the GNR the A1
Pacific's were the fastest

Hughes on the L&Y designed heavy fast passenger
locomotives for the cross country routes

Serving both east and west coast

L&Y loco's could be seen from Morecombe to
Cleethorpes

The Atlantic design played and important part
just as it did with the GNR

Those ever tempting railway posters

Meant for the working class
and that much loves wakes week

L&Y 4 6 0 Heavy Passenger express

Both Southport and Blackpool along with Morecombe
were served by the big 4 6 0 heavy locomotives
of the L&Y on excursion work to the coast

Blackpool was for the rest of us

But many found it to be the
the much needed break

Southport was pretty swish

The Lancs and Yorks served the industrial areas
in many and varied ways

The American connection

Taken from the American wheel arrangement 4 4 2
Commonly known as the Atlantic

They must have been a thrilling ride in those early
days just after the races to the North

I have it they were a lively ride on the footplate
