Great Western Railway Nunney Castle 5029

Taking water at Pickering before taking a full train
back to Grosmont

A great visitor

GWR 4073 Class 5029 Nunney Castle is a Great Western Railway Castle Classsteam locomotive. It was built at Swindon Works in 1934, and takes the name of Nunney Castle near Frome, Somerset. She was outshopped from Swindon Works on 28 May 1934. The locomotive was used in many publicity and "life on the railway" type of photographs. During the first day of the World War II Evacuations, the locomotive hauled trains carrying children being taken from London to the safety of the countryside. Nunney Castle was also used to haul the Royal Train in October 1957 from London Paddington station to Gloucester.
Many thanks Wikipedia for the above

LNER A4 Sir Nigel Gresley

At Grosmont on Sunday

Boiler ticket is running out so now is the time to
see her before major overhaul

The iconic A4 Pacific Locomotive 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley is scheduled to be running each day over the bank holiday weekend and throughout the following week between Pickering and Grosmont Stations.
Passengers wishing to ride behind this stunning locomotive only have a few more weeks, before the locomotive must go to have the boiler overhauled, which could take quite some time before she is back in service.
Many thanks North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Picture is mine the text above is theirs. See details of these last weeks of her running at   http://www.nymr.co.uk/
