Locomotive Roster for Weekend 27th & 28th May and Half Term Week 2017

by news@kwvr
Over the May half-term week, it is planned to have a 3 engine line up with BR Class 4MT 4-6-0 75078 taking the lion’s share of the work, operating on 5 days. On Sunday and Monday Bank Holiday, 75078 will be joined by USA S160 2-8-0 5820.
MR 4F 0-6-0 43924 will be at the head of the passenger service in operation on the Tuesday - Friday weekday service but will be joined by 75078 when Paw Patrol's Chase and Marshall will be visiting the Railway as a half term treat for our younger patrons.
In addition, it is a Diesel & Ale Day on Saturday with Class 25 059 providing the diesel service throughout the day.
The daily line-up will be as follows
♦  Saturday 27th – 25 059 & 75078
♦  Sunday and Monday – 75078 & 5820
♦  Tuesday – 43924
♦  Wednesday and Thursday – 75078 & 43924
♦  Friday – 43924
And don't forget, every day Tuesday - Friday, a Vintage Bus service, free to Rover ticket holders, will be operating between Oxenhope and Haworth giving unrivalled views across the Worth Valley. If the weather is warm and bright an open top double decker may be provided for this service.
Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Flying Scotsman week K&WVR

‘Flying Scotsman’ – 9 Days on the KWVR

by news@kwvr
Almost 400 images have been gratefully received and have been whittled down to just under 200 representing a cross section of styles, views and locations, cataloguing Saturday 1st - Sunday 9th April, 9 amazing and never to be forgotten days with the most famous locomotive in the world 60103, 'Flying Scotsman'.
To see the superb complete collection of photographs, sent to us by countless photographs who attended during the week, visit the  "Flying Scotsman on the KWVR" photograph album on Flickr.
We showcase below just a small collection of those being displayed in the album plus two of many videos on YouTube.
INGROW: ‘Flying Scotsman’ on display at Ingrow at the end of the day

DAY 1: Cylinder drain cocks open sending debris on the track scattering in all directions, the 10.00 departure from Haworth bursts out from under Bridgehouse Lane bridge on the 3rd April to get proceedings under way.

DAY 2: Having left Haworth behind, 60103 pushes on to Oxenhope late in the afternoon.

DAY 3: Having past 43924 on the service train, ‘Flying Scotsman heads to Oakworth.

DAY 4: Harking to it’s past. 60103 passes Bell Isle, Haworth, reminiscent of passing Belle Isle, London on its journey north out of Kings Cross.

DAY 5: Passengers wait to board the first train of the day at Oxenhope.

DAY 6: Under blue cloudless skies, ‘Flying Scotsman’ powers out up Keighley Bank.

DAY 7: Final day, the day is warming up and 60103 shows little exhaust as it passes non-stop through Oakworth.

In addition to photographs there has been some excellent footage posted on YouTube, with these two from Steaming Around Yorkshire and Penny Steam just a sample of what is available on the YouTube channel.

K&WVR Locomotive Roster for 2017 ‘Haworth 1940s’ Weekend

Locomotive Roster for 2017 ‘Haworth 1940s’ Weekend

by news@kwvr
With the Haworth 1940s Weekend stretching over 3 days, steam service trains will be running everyday with 3 steam locomotives that saw service in the war years plus some mainline diesel action on Saturday and Sunday morning.
On the roster for the whole weekend's operation is WD 2-8-0 90733, a locomotive built specifically as part of the war effort, and saw service in mainland Europe before cessation of hostilities.
On Saturday 90733 is joined by our second locomotive built for the hostilities, USATC S160 2-8-0 5820, built in the USA to the British loading gauge but shipped directly to Poland in 1945, from where it was purchased in 1977. The 3rd steam engine in action will be 4F 0-6-0 43924, built in 1920 by the Midland Railway which had already "clocked" up many miles after 19 years service when war broke out in Europe.
Starting with the 11.00 departure from Keighley these 3 locomotives will work turn and turn about giving a variety of motive power on departures from Keighley. Of particular interest to enthusiasts will be the 17.45, the last passenger working of the day from Keighley when 90733 will double head with train engine 5820. The last departure from Keighley will be the 18.25 ECS working to Oxenhope.
Class 101 DMU will be on the early morning diesel service on Friday when the Green timetable is in operation. On Saturday and Sunday the first and third departures from Keighley and the second from Oxenhope will be diesel hauled stock with BR Type 2 diesel electric locomotive number 25 059 in charge.
And don’t forget, mid-week, the Diesel Railcar Service that operates on Wednesday.

Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Little Engines Gala – Visiting Engine

Little Engines Gala – Visiting Engine

by news@kwvr
With only nine weeks to go until our brand new "Little Engines Gala" we are delighted to announce our first visiting locomotive, 'Austerity' 0-6-0ST 71515 'Mech Navvies Ltd.' courtesy of the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway (PBR). This type of engine featured in the early days of the KWVR with two examples of the class operational during the early years, Longmoor Military Railway no. 118 'Brussels', now resident in Oxenhope Exhibition Shed and 'Fred', an ex-National Coal Board engine which left the Railway many years ago.
71515 was commissioned by the War Department in 1945 from Robert Stevenson and Hawthorns as WD71515, but, with WW2 drawing to a close, was quickly put to work at the Swalwell Disposal Point in what was then County Durham, the modern day Tyne & Wear. At the time, the opencast disposal point was worked by Mechanical Navvies Limited, and it is in that company’s livery that the loco now appears.
It was taken into preservation by 1974 to the East Somerset Railway, where shortly after arrival she was liveried in BR black with the BR number 68005 in line with the J94 locomotives that ran on the national railway system, although 71515 never ran in BR service.
By 1995 71515 ran at the Bolton and Embsay Railway, still in BR black and where she was nicknamed ‘The Mog’. Although overhauled in 2004, a burst boiler tube two years later put paid to her active service and was laid aside.
Three years later, following interest shown by a PBR member, 71515 was purchased in August 2009, and in the following month, taken to the Flour Mill works in the Forest of Dean for repair, being repainted into Mech Navvies livery in the process. Arriving at the PBR in April 2010, the engine has worked the majority of services scheduled for steam haulage since.

K&WVR Locomotive Roster for Weekend 6th & 7th May 2017

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 6th & 7th May 2017

by news@kwvr
It has been a busy period for our volunteers over the last month or so, with hardly a respite since the 31st March and throughout April . So it is probably with some relief that we have the next two weekends of "normal" running with no special trains and the standard Green timetable on Saturday and Blue timetable on Sunday.
The mainstay of this weekend's steam service will be WD 2-8-0 90733, the first steam service on Saturday departing Oxenhope at 11.00 for 5 round trips to Keighley. On Sunday 90733 will be joined on Sunday by BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078 with passenger services starting at 10.15
The Saturday diesel turn will have our Class 101 Diesel Multiple Unit running the service with the first train leaving Oxenhope at 09.00.
Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.
Due to engineering works next week there will be no mid-week diesel railcar service on the 10th May.
