Large Prairie 5199 arrives at Llangollen on Friday

I had gone down to Wales to collect some books I

had purchased on ebay from a lovely lady by the

name of Julie. She runs a second hand railway

book business and is very reasonable indeed.

She lives in Llanymynech which is just a little

south of Llangollen.

Ivatt class 2 tank 41241

Haworth yard Saturday 6th June (D day)

 

 

Indeed it was Derby class 4 was in charge of steam

traction

 

However the it was great news for the Ivatt tank.

On the previous day we had visited Llangollen

and on the way down the M606 there on a low

loader was Ivatt tank 41241 obviously on its way

back to Haworth.

 

So Saturday I went up to Haworth and sure enough

there was 41241 sans boiler in the yard.

 

Newly turned tires in clear evidence as well as much

other less visible work.  More pictures to follow along

BR Standard class 4 tank 80002

very good news from the Keighley & Worth Valley

Railway this week.

 

 

The BR class 4 tank 80002 has been taken down

to the workshops at Haworth for assessment prior

to overhaul.

 

When a locomotive returns to action after an overhaul to working condition, the Railway can expect it to have a working life of approximately 10 years. As a result, the Railway can plan ahead based on when particular locomotives will be withdrawn and, therefore, will assess that locomotives  replacement from the pool of stored locomotives at Oxenhope.

This process has resulted in Taff Vale 0-6-2T no. 85 going through the works with an anticipated completion date in the not too distant future. Also going through the works are Standard 2MT 2-6-0 78022 and Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241 both progressing well in their respective overhauls for completion in years to come.

With MR 4F 0-6-0 43924 due for overhaul in 6 years, the next identified long term requirement is for a locomotive of power classification 4 and with this in mind Standard 4MT 2-6-4T 80002 was taken out of store at Oxenhope on the 28th May and moved down to Haworth Locomotive Works for assessment of the work required to bring it back into working order.

The wartime engines Riddles Austerity 2-8-0 and USA S160 2-8-0

I am told both engines will be on duty next weekend 

and through the spring bank holiday week 

So plenty of opportunity to see them 

USA 'Big Jim' S160 No 5820 departs Keighley up the grade effortlessly

Just shows the power of this engine with six coaches

on it makes an effortless departure up the grade to 

Ingrow and on to Oxenhope calling at Oakworth

and Haworth

Superb engine and thank goodness a small number 

at least were preserved here in the UK
