K&WVR Locomotive Roster for the weekend 19th & 20th January 2019

Locomotive Roster for the weekend 19th & 20th January 2019

by news@kwvr
With the reduced number of passengers on our winter services our steam hauled services consist of 4 coaches, sufficient for Class 2 motive power, which this weekend will be BR 'Ivatt' Class 2MT 2-6-2 41241 with 5 round trips on Saturday, Green timetable, and 4 on Sunday to the Blue timetable.
Visitors should note that we are now operating to a revised Green timetable with the first Saturday diesel railcar service of the day departing from Haworth at 09.00 and not Oxenhope as in previous years. The diesel service will be operated on both days by our Class 101 diesel multiple unit.
Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Advance Notice

As Winter bites and the News Editor advances in years, like our Summer birds, he is heading south for an extended break and a well earned (at least he thinks so) holiday of a lifetime. Unfortunately a replacement editor has not been trained up yet, so, reluctantly, you will not receive a locomotive roster update each week to your in-box. The last update will be for the weekend of the 26th & 27th January with normal service being resumed for the weekend of the 23rd & 24th March.
Fear not, however!

K&WVR Locomotive Roster for the weekend 5th & 6th January 2019

Locomotive Roster for the weekend 5th & 6th January 2019

by news@kwvr
As we start a new year, we must first apologise for the lack of information regarding the locomotives in operation from the 28th December to the 1st January. Sadly our normally reliable jungle drums did not come up with their usual flow of information. Rumours that the drummer had had too much sherry over the Christmas period are totally unfounded, although this weekend's drumbeat has come a little late.
With the failure of the rostered locomotive, MR 0-6-0 4F 43924, we have had a combination of motive power with 78022, 41241 and diesel 20 031 all rallying to the call, and on New Year's Day we had the wonderful double headed combination of BR Standard Class 2 2-6-0 78022 and BR 'Ivatt' 2MT 2-6-2T 41241 (illustrated above and below) - a stirring sight of 2 locomotives that returned to service in 2018 bringing in the New Year. With the number of passenger we carry on our Mince Pie Specials, we need to run 6 coaches and with 78022 and 41241, the only alternative engines available, limited to 5 coaches, extra power is required if either of these locomotives were to be used. 20 031 assisted on the 31st December and the two Class 2 locomotives combined on 1st January in perfect Winter conditions as you can see below.
With the reduced number of passengers on our winter services, this weekend's motive power will be BR 'Ivatt' Class 2MT 2-6-2T 41241 hauling 4 coaches with 5 round trips on Saturday, Green timetable, and 4 on Sunday to the Blue timetable.

K&WVR Locomotive Roster for the 22nd – 28th December 2018

Locomotive Roster for the 22nd – 28th December 2018

by news@kwvr
And so we come to the end of our Santa Steam Specials this weekend and despite some atrocious weather conditions, especially last Saturday, our volunteers have, once again, delivered a memorable visit for our passengers producing lots and lots of happy faces. As this is being written, the BBC Weather App is predicting more rain for the last 3 days of Santa Steam Specials but, in theory at least, the sun will be poking its nose out at various times.
This weekend's combination of steam locomotives will be the same as last weekend's. On Saturday and Sunday MR 4F 0-6-0 43924 will take our festive visitors south from Keighley and on Christmas Eve, BR Standard Class 2 2-6-0 78022 will have the honours of bringing the 2018 season of Santa Steam Specials to a close.  Both locomotives will be in steam on all 3 days, with the non-operation locomotive, on standby in Haworth Yard.
This weekend the diesel locomotive will be Class 20, 20 031 on both days.
For visitors without a Santa Steam Special ticket wishing to travel along the Worth Valley, a diesel railcar service operates throughout the day by our Class 101 diesel multiple unit, starting at 09.00, giving passengers a new perspective through the forward facing windows on our diesel railcars. This service is free of charge to Santa Special ticket holders.
Our volunteers only get one day's respite before the Railway re-opens on Boxing Day with a week of Mince Pie Specials headed by MR 4F 0-6-0 43924.
Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

‘BAHAMAS RAILTOUR 2’, Oxenhope to Carlisle 16th February 2019

‘BAHAMAS RAILTOUR 2’, Oxenhope to Carlisle 16th February 2019

by news@kwvr

Due to the huge success and quick sell out of the original 9th February ‘Bahamas’ Railtour, we have decided to launch a second tour date, just one week later, so that all of our wonderful enthusiasts are able to get the chance to enjoy one of 45596’s first mainline running in over 25 years!
LMS ‘Jubilee’ Class locomotive 45596 ‘Bahamas, was the first of the four Jubilees of the class to be preserved and occupies a special place in railway history as it was the very last steam engine to be modified by BR in its attempts to improve the performance of its steam fleet with the fitting of its unique double chimney and blastpipe in 1961. The Bahamas Locomotive Society (BLS) bought 45596 in 1967.
‘Bahamas’ ran on the main line (1989 – 1994) before retiring to Oxenhope Exhibition Shed in 1997. 45596 moved to Tyseley Locomotive Works in November 2013 as a result of the BLS’s successful £996k bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for help to give it the most extensive overhaul since 1961. 45596’s first steaming after its latest overhaul was on 27 September and, on its return to Ingrow, ‘Bahamas’ is about to operate on the main line once again.
Promoted by Keighley & Worth Valley Railway in partnership with Bahamas Locomotive Society, 'Bahamas' will run from Oxenhope to Carlisle and return on Saturday 16th February 2019.
Tickets are available to purchase online NOW! For more details and to book your ticket, click HERE to go to the main KWVR website.
