Whitby steam

Well this week saw me on the East Yorkshire Coast and of course a visit to Whitby was on the cards. I called at Robin Hoods Bay on the way up and sadly of course the railways no longer runs down the coast and into Scarborough as it used to in my childhood days. However the Village is still the picture it always was. Whitby fortunately still has a station and now steam services via the North Yorkshire Moors Railway over Networks Rails metal's from Gromont into Whitby. Here we see George Stephenson arriving with the midday train  and departing again for Gromont. Sadly the run around at Whitby is a memory so the loco must take it's train some half a mile back up from the station to run around and the back the whole lot down into the station again to load passengers for Gromont and onwards to Pickering. They have become extremely well practiced at this though and it takes very little time.

And so here George Stephenson arriving and leaving Whitby Yesterday 31st August, the last day of summer and of the NYMR gold timetable. Do visit them at http://www.nymr.co.uk/ or better still visit them for real at Gromont and Pickering where there is always plenty to see.
