Bradford Exchange Station Ambulance train

All the major railway companies built or converted
carriages to ambulance trains during WW1 for the
transport of casualties from the battle fields of
France. In cities and towns where the 'Pals'
brigades had been formed such trains
were put on show by way of trying
reassure families that their loved
ones who volunteered would be
cared for.

They were very popular viewing sessions as can be
here at Exchange station

Sadly of course the Bradford Pals were decimated
On the first day of July 1916 on the battle field we
call the Somme
