WD 2-8-0

Doing what they were built to do

Excellent painting by Eric Bottomley

Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's 957 boiler lift

Yesterday was taken up with several lifts around
Haworth Yard

Most notably L&Y 957's boiler was lifted clear
to undergo ten year survey and overhaul

I have a very soft spot for the two oldest engines
in the K&WVR stable of which 957 is the elder

Now the work of restoration can begin proper

over the coming months the boiler will be fully
examined and re-tubed

The engine completely opened for survey

Then the rebuild

and once again 957 (The Green Dragon) will steam
along the Worth Valley

Derby 4F

The Derby 4F has been running the intermediate
turns since a complete boiler re-tube earlier this year

USA S160

USA S160 simmers in the sunshine at Haworth

The S160 and the Riddles WD have had a busy time

Bolton Abbey Station

The new island platform is coming along well at
Bolton Abbey Station

Ready for infill and covering

The old station building's restored with help from
many with HLF being the principle

No better place for a loco enthusiast on a summers day

These engines were replacements for the Taff Vale
Railways tank engines

Never quite as successful as the Taffy Tanks as they
had a habit of derailing in the tight colliery yards of
the Welsh valley's. Most drivers preferred to drive
them bunker first so the trailing truck could guide
the engine into the curves.
