With an 8P rating these were culmination of all Staniers work on the LMS. Sucessors to the Princess Royal class they handled the express west coast services between London Euston and Glasgow. In later years, the ones I remember, you could occasionally see one on the Nottingham Glasgow cross country service along with their predecessors the Princess Royals. This route took them up the Settle to Carlisle and was one I remember well, passing up past the Three Peaks of Pennyghent, Ingleborough and Whernside.
