Bradford had a bypass line or avoiding line which
left the main Bradford/Halifax/Manchester line just
north of the northern portal of Bowling tunnel
passing a new station at Bowling it was significantly
higher in elevation to the St Dunstans junction out
of Bradford Exchange.
The avoiding line allowed Manchester Leeds traffic
to go direct to Laisterdyke where it re-joined the
main line so missing the deep fall to Bradford
Exchange and of course the long drag back up
Above we see the junction and it's proximity to
the main line down to Bradford Exchange.
