The N2 tanks were regular engines on the Queensbury
I well remember Richard Hardy telling of fireing
over the 'Alpine route' as the GNR men called the
Queensbury lines. No he wasn't a fireman but a
premium apprentice at Doncaster works. We
owe much to Richards memories of that climb
all the way through to a senior member of
the British Railways Board.
Here the sole survivor pictures at Quorn on my
visit to the Great Central Railway.
The N2s almost certainly worked the Queensbury lines, along with other types, but they had all left the West Riding by c.1945. It was the N1s which came to as good as monopolise passenger workings, this they did from c.1946 to the end of passenger services.
ReplyDeleteThe loco pictured is neither an N1 nor an N2, it is a C12.
