Midland Railway and a through route Bradford

Ever since the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway
entered Bradford from the south then plans have
been afoot to link the Midland Line and the from
Forster Sq to the L&Y line at Exchange station.


Above we see the closest it ever really got back in 1913. 
Linking the stations together was first suggested as early as 1845; however, it was not until 1911 that a serious plan was put forward and an enabling Act of Parliament. ‘The Bradford Through Lines Act’ was passed. The area between the stations was heavily built-up with Victorian warehouses, shops and offices, so the 1911 plan would have involved a large amount of demolition. The start of WW I eventually put a stop to these plans. However as can be seen much property was bought up  by the Midland Railway in anticipation of the work going ahead.
