Shortly before closure and demolition a DMU leaves
for Leeds
They were often viewed as dark and gloomy
For me they were always places of joy at the
prospect of a journey
Jubilees were the most common big engines
With Fowler and Standard tanks taking the local
strain.
Bradford Exchange . . . December 1947 9pm N1 0-6-2 on footplate to Wakefield . . . join London train from Leeds to King's Cross . . . Waterloo to Southampton . . . RMS Mauritania across N. Atlantic in December to New York . . . rough journey for a 14 yr. old.
