I was blessed with a shed visit at Haworth this
morning and my very grateful thanks to the staff
there for allowing me access. First the Taffy tank
No 85. Work is progressing very well on the boiler
which is the last part of the jig saw. The chap who
had been leading the refurbishment sadly past
away last year but the team have remained together
and dedicated to getting the job finished.
All the work on the boiler was able to be completed
in house and it gets ever closer now to completion
As can be seen new tubes are being expanded
There is still some cost involved in the work to
finish this remarkable engine and may be we can
all begin a discussion as to any way we can help
in anyway
The firebox was corroded around the foundation ring
and has had a section replaced. I am told surprisingly
to me the corrosion was worst on the outside of the
boiler where the lower part around the foundation
ring sat between the frames. There was of course
the usual corrosion on the inside where boiler
sludge inevitable gathers. My marine boilers
do not have to suffer the extremes of weather
outside as Loco boilers do. I would always
expect wasting and corrosion around the
inside foundation ring (Ogee ring to other
marine engineers)
However the team are doing a magnificent job as can
be seen from the pictures today
Today they were working on many parts of the
boiler but mostly tapping holes for stays. A careful
job and all credit to a great team.
So how can we help them? They will still need
some funding and any contributions would I am
sure be more than welcome. The engine is now owned by
the K&WVR so any contributions would I know be
more than welcomed to restoring this worthy
