Great Horton station goods.

As you can see the transport of goods was quite a
major part of the railways work until the greater
ease of road transport took over, just as the railways
put the canals out of business then the roads put the
railways out of business.

I remember the yard as it is here and also as it
became when Baird's television works took over
the site. The mill in the upper left distance is
Ikaringill's.  Ira and his brother, James, owned
Legrams spinning mill in Bradford, England. This
mill was started in 1860 by James and Ira. Many
of our neighbours when we moves to Rugby Place
worked at the mill

Here a very old postcard of the mills from the air
The road running along the length of the mill in
the foreground is Legrams lane from which the
mills took their name. In my younger days after
moving from Thornton we lived to the west of
the mill which is to the right of the picture in
the lower part of Lidget Green. Legrams lane
ran all the way up to Clayton where there was
another station on the Great Northern line.
