Midland to LMS and the need for change

here we see the reason things had to change when 
the midland railway became a major part of the 
LMS. Small engine policy of Derby meant a 
good deal of double banking of expresses


This proved far too expensive and when Hughes 
arrived from the L&Y his big engine ideas 
became the norm though Derby and Crewe
were all too often at loggerheads.
