I do hope Cranston fine arts don't mind. Some 70
years ago the Royal Air Force fought their hardest
day of the Battle of Britain. Young men of whom
was said 'they were not the men their fathers
were, they grew their hair and slouched about,
yet before breakfast they soared like eagles
and shot a brace of Messerschmidt's down
The pilots of the Royal Air Force used the railway
lines to navigate by, indeed so did the pilots of the
Luftwaffe. In so many ways the railways were part
of those dark days. They served our nation well.
We shall never forget their very great sacrifice.
Those few were just enough.
