GWR Nunney Castle and it's Walschaerts valve gear

The castles had inside Walschaert's valve gear. The
outside cylinder valves being actuated by the inner
cylinders valve gear and link motion

It was of course very successful making the Castle
class a very powerful locomotive

The same arrangements were also used on Stars which
preceded them and were the base for developing the
Castle and King class which succeeded the Castles
for the very heavy trains to the west

When fist brought into service they were regarded
by many as the most powerful locomotive in
England. The Castles and Kings were the
work of C B Collett
