K&WVR Locomotive Roster for Weekend 23rd & 24th April 2016

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 23rd & 24th April 2016

by news@kwvr
Sadly the anticipated return last weekend 2-8-0 stalwart 90733 did not materialise as additional remedial work was required before the locomotive could return to traffic. Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078 deputised for the WD.
However, fingers crossed, 90733 will return to action this weekend, subject to a final steam test on the 21st. Should further maintenance be required, then MR 4F 0-6-0 43924, the locomotive originally rostered, will fulfil the duty as originally planned.

The diesel service will have the Class 101 railcar on the Saturday morning diesel service and all day Sunday on the diesel turn.
For the timetables in operation this weekend, please click HERE to visit the timetable page.
Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Austerity 90733 back on the frontline K&WVR

90733 back on the frontline

by news@kwvr
In February we reported on the withdrawal of WD 2-8-0 90733 following the failure of one of the flues after which examination revealed a further 7 flues were not in the best of health. Accordingly 8 new ones were ordered, although re-instatement to traffic would take some time.
Anyone visiting Haworth yard saw a somewhat forlorn 90733 peaking out from the goods shed.
However fast forward 2 months and 90733 is seen in Haworth Yard in steam and ready for action.

Work completed during those 2 months was the replacement of 8 flues with brand new flues that were made and fitted by Riley and Son, although the removal of the superheater and the flues and the replacement of the superheater was done by KWVR volunteers. The work also included some remedial work on the regulator and the fire grate.

K&WVR Steam & Ale Trail

Steam & Ale Trail

by news@kwvr
The KWVR is not only a great way to travel but also a great place to sample real ale and 2016 sees the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway launch our new Steam and Ale Trail over the Bank Holiday weekend from Saturday 28th May until Monday 30th.
The new event is the result of the hugely popular Beer and Music Festival which takes place in October.  The Steam and Ale trail is a 5 mile long ale trail where you hop off at each station to enjoy a pint of fine Yorkshire ale from a selection of local breweries. With over 40 beers to choose from you can visit each station where each different brewery will be bringing their brewery bars where you can choose from their range of beers.
