Toddington yard and sheds

Southern Railway merchant navy class

I sailed under that flag for fifteen years

The Merchant Navies carried the Southerns electric
light train coding.

No clambering about resetting the codes, it was a
simple job done from the cab

Needless to say, polished and burnished to perfection

Plenty of travelers that day

Merchant Navy Class P&O lines

There was of course method in my madness in my
visit to the G&WR and here it is.

I worked for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam navigation
Company for some fifteen year before becoming a teacher.
As an engineering officer I had the pleasure or many wonderful
ships and of course driving and looking after their engines.

So here it was in all its glory. 'Peninsular & Oriental S N Co'

Now fully restored 35006 is a magnificent example
of Bullied and Riddles/BR.

Goods for South Wales

I spent a good many childhood holidays in Cardiff
and well remember the goods traffic up and down the
Valleys.

Just look at that sky, hopefully summer or spring
at least is close around the corner on this wintry
day in late January

The DMU for Cheltenham has the right of way.

Now and then Toddington

Now Toddington is relatively quiet

However in times past it was a very busy station

Much goods traffic and passenger too

Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway Toddington

A sight that could have been 50 or
60 years ago. Like time had stood
still.

The DMU awaits departure for
Cheltenham racecourse. You can
almost hear the birds and feel the
warmth of the summers day

Those old lorries and trucks that were common place once

Vintage, veteran or classic, they are all the same
to me. They evoke many memories

Yes I know they are really classic

Once a very common sight on our roads and around
our railways

Thank goodness someone has preserved some of
those too along with the Engines and such

Often seen as removal vans as people moved

Toddington station

On the day of our visit last June we had
temperatures topping 29/30 degrees and
as you see a perfect summers day.

Ohhh how I long for the return of
summer on a dank dark Sunday at
the end of January.

Toddington on the G&WR

Found them at last. This was our visit to the
Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway

It was a stunningly beautiful day as we searched for
and found the G&WR station at Toddington

A very lovingly restored GWR station

These things are what memories are made of.

Set in beautiful country, the Glos Warks railway is
very well worth a visit.

K&WVR Locomotive Roster for Weekend 27th & 28th January 2018

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 27th & 28th January 2018

by news@kwvr
Taff Vale Railway 0-6-2T no. 85 is back this weekend at the head of the steam service on Saturday and Sunday.
First train departs Oxenhope (diesel railcar) at 09.00 with 85 operating from 11.00 and on Sunday, the first passenger service is steam hauled at 10.15, working a two train service with the diesel railbus.
The diesel service will be in the capable hands of our 1958 vintage railbus M79964, well worth taking a journey in this vehicle which celebrates its 60th birthday this year.
For the timetables in operation this weekend, please click HERE to visit the main website.
Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Locomotive Roster weekend 20th & 21st January 2018

Having held the fort on the weekend steam services this year, 43924 steps down this weekend for a well earned break.
Having spent Christmas in the Dales at the Embsay Steam Railway, TVR 02 Class 0-6-2T no. 85 returned after its duties there and will be at the head of steam services this weekend potentially in the same conditions experienced just over a year ago, after snow had fallen in the Valley. Our diesel railbus M79964 will be operating the diesel service on both days.
First train departs Oxenhope (diesel railcar) at 09.00 with 85 operating from 11.00 and on Sunday, the first passenger service is steam hauled at 10.15, working a two train service with the diesel railcar.

A bit dull and dreary round Haworth Yard

We were pleased to be able to be of mutual help
to the Embsay Bolton Abbey line with the hire
of the Taffy Tank

See what I mean about 'dull and dreary' !

The shunters have been busy moving stock into
and out of the shed to allow for the new roof and
painting the walls.

USA ATC is now being rested but the Railbus is
still busy on weekends

Good to get things tidied up after the works and the
she is bright and light. Class 4 75078 was about to
go out for a steam test.

Haworth shed and yard today 10/1/17

The new roof and repainted walls have made quite
a difference in brightness

Taff Vale Tank No85 now back from its sojourn at
Embsay on the Yorkshire Dales Railway

The railbus will be in service at the weekend.

USA Transprot Comand 5829 has been doing
sterling work up to Christmas.
