K&WVR Haworth 1940s Weekend 13th, 14th & 15th May 2016

Haworth 1940s Weekend 13th, 14th & 15th May 2016

by news@kwvr
Friday 13th - Sunday the 15th is the time in the Worth Valley when the 1940's comes to Haworth Village, arguably the best 1940s celebration from all those that take part throughout the UK.
Whilst celebrations are in full flow 'up the hill', meanwhile down in the Valley, the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway will play its part in recreating the period.
This video from the Penny Steam archives of the 2015 weekend gives an excellent flavour of what the railway has to offer to complement this wonderful weekend of celebration.

Pullman-DiningPullman Afternoon Teas

In the Exhibition Shed at Oxenhope, dressed in 1940s outfits, our catering volunteers will be serving Afternoon Teas on board one of our elegant Pullman coaches. The Exhibition Shed will be suitably decked out for the period and music of the time will be played as a background to eating your afternoon tea in style.

Travel by Train

Because of the numbers that visit Haworth for the event the surrounding roads are very busy, consequently road access to the event is not easy, with parking sometimes being a mile or more away from the centre of events. Here the Railway has a big part to play in transporting people through the Valley to Haworth. If you are coming by car use one of our car parks at Oxenhope, Ingrow or Keighley. If the Keighley car park is full, then there is a large car park on the other side of Keighley Station, off Dalton Lane, which is provided courtesy of the Keighley Campus of Leeds City College.
However, if you let the train take the strain, via the national network, passengers can use the cross platform interchange at Keighley and take the frequent train service all the way up the Valley to Haworth.

Great Northern Outpost Vol.1: Bradford & Thornton Railway

Great Northern Outpost Vol.1: Bradford & Thornton Railway

by news@kwvr
2015 marked the 60 anniversary since the closure to passengers of the Great Northern Railway routes linking Bradford, Halifax and Keighley, known locally as the Queensbury Lines, and, as the Keighley section of these routes joins our very own Worth Valley branch at Great Northern Junction, the history of these lines is of great interest to many KWVR members.
We now have available in Haworth shop, a new title covering part of this network, Great Northern Outpost Volume 1: The Bradford & Thornton Railway covering the lines as suggested in the title.

K&WVR 2016 Winter Steam Gala – Photo Album & Video

2016 Winter Steam Gala – Photo Album & Video

by news@kwvr
After some considerable delay we are pleased to present a collection of photographs submitted by photographers over the 3 days of the Gala.
Whilst visitor numbers were down on previous events, due mainly to the non appearance of the visiting locomotives as a result of circumstances beyond the Railway's control, the staff and volunteers put on a great show as these images testify.
View the full photographic record of the Gala on our Flickr page >>>
The locomotives taking part were:
TVR 0-6-2T no. 85 making its first appearance on a passenger train since restoration
USATC S160 2-8-0 5820

Unfortunately 2 locomotives from the home fleet were also absent, repairs not being completed prior to the Gala.
As always Ken Baker, this year accompanied by his new trusty friend, Lucky, was on hand to film the events and a taster of his usual comprehensive record of the day can be seen below.
