Railway at Idle West Yorkshire.

Now almost completely lost is the GN railway line, station and goods yard at Idle, my home village. Idle was in ancient times a Township and as such when the railways came was awarded a substantial rail structure with station goods yards etc. All that now remains is the eastern most buttress of the bridge crossing the high street opposite Barclays Bank. The council have recently built a small seating area at it's foot with flower beds. The station building was an exact match of the others on this rugged line around North East Bradford. Look back at my picture of Windhill GN station.

LMS workhorses

The Jinties and the tanks were the workhorses of the regional services serving the industrial towns and of course the rural services.

A name to ring bells

Here another name to ring bells from the past. As youngster's we looked with yearning at Gamages and Hamley's and Basset Lowke. Often beyond the means of working class lads parents but you could dream.

A few more memories of summer's past

Midland 4F detail drawing

As you well know from past post's I am very much a detail man so here is the detail drawing for the Midland 'Derby' 4F.

4F at Embsay station

Hopefully we can soon see some Midland locos back at Embsay and Bolton Abbey. Come on you who own them. We are grateful for your preserving them but smaller railways need them too to draw in the people.
