Ambulance trains

As in WW1 the railways were ready with ambulance
trains to move the wounded away from the battle 
area and indeed across the country once landed 
here in England


Some were very well purpose made


The stations wide platforms aided transfer from
field ambulances to the trains


Below and USATC S160 hauls an ambulance 
train somewhere in Italy during the Italian 
campaign


Others were not always so purpose built


Above goods vans converted to carry stretchers


Here goods vans converted to carry casualties are 
loaded somewhere in France
