Windhill Great Northern Junction. Peter Thorpe

Once again from the collection of Peter Thorpe

From the end of Shipley station I would estimate.
The bridges carry the midland main line (now the
Aire valley line) across the Bradford arm of the
Leeds and Liverpool canal at the bottom of Windhill.
The line to Thackley and idle can be seen on the right
under the gantry as it begins the incline. The lines to
the left are the midland lines whilst the line near
left and passing over the GNR canal bridge is the
line which connected Shipley Midland station,
with GNR Windhill station and involved a
back shunt for engines entering Windhill
from the midland lines from Bradford.
The single line on the far right of the
picture came out of Windhill GNR,
the DMU being on the midland
line from Leeds or Baildon
