The class 37 introduced in the 1960's were powerful
locomotives for both passenger and goods work
Fitted with an English Electric 1750 HP diesel
engine driving a generator which powered the
traction motors on the bogies. The engines
were probably the zenith of English Electrics
production being turbocharged and inter-cooled.
10 inch bore and 12 inch stroke in a Vee 12
formation.
