Another of my favourite railways is the delightful Woodybay Railway, which is the restored section of the old Lynton and Barnstaple railway. A narrow gauge of 1ft 11.5 inch, it is a busy little railway situated north west of the town of Lynton in North Devon.

Embsay station
Embsay station was the begining of the YDR and I well remember it's steady growth over the years. Great tribute should be paid to all those volunteers who have over the years worked so hard to make the YDR an very pleasurable experience for visitors to Yorkshire.
Below are the stalwarts of the past and beginings of real running before the extention to Bolton Abbey.
Below we see more work awaiting
Restored Bolton Abbey Station
The restoration work at Bolton Abbey has been done to an excellent standard. This view from the platform side shows the restored station buildings which include shop, buffet and of course the usual booking hall and waiting room.
Below is the station frontage from the drive. There are excellent car parking facilities and of course there is a well laid out path to the Priory church and Abbey grounds alongside the river.
And lastly the inside of the station booking hall and waiting area. Needless to say there is plenty of waiting room on the very wide and spacious platform where more seats can be found.

GWR 6619
Welcome to my new blog. I shall be using it to share my steam memories and experiences.
I visited the Yorkshire Dales Railway at Embsay and Bolton Abbey this weekend gone and was very pleased to see GWR 6619 hauling passenger trains to and from Bolton Abbey. The station there having been recently restored and very good job indeed has been made of this work. Well done YDR.
I well remember the class to which 6619 belongs as I spent a good deal of time in Cardiff as a child and this class was specifically designed for the South Wales coal and passenger traffic.

Here we see 6619 during it's time on the North Yorks Moors Railway. Very tough reliable engines and of course perfectly suited the the conditions her in Yorkshire on our moorland and dale preserved railways.
Here is my own picture of the engine at Bolton Abbey this weekend gone. As you can see it is in fine condition and a very good addition to the YDR's saddle tank engines.
