Here a dubdee aproaces Manchester Rd station
along Ripleyville
On route for Halifax or more likely Keighley this
heavy goods train will start the heavy ascent to
Queensbury after the next but one station which
is Horton Park after Manchester Rd. It then starts
the haul over what the engine men referred to as
'The Alps'. Great Horton station followed then a
further pull up to Clayton station before entering
Clayton tunnel for the run through to Queensbury.
If the train was bound for Keighley then a further
climb after Thornton (my own birthplace) though
Well Heads and over to Denholme then on to
Cullingworth from where the line ran down
to Keighley via Ingrow East.
