Cutlers Junction Bradford.

Here a not often seen view of Cutlers junction

The line running to the left of the junction ran along
a ridge bypassing Laisterdyke and running on to
Dudley Hill and Morley then on to Wakefield. The
line running off to the right is the main Leeds Bradford
line which from Cutlers junction ran through
Quarry gap and Laisterdyke then down the grade
into Bradford Exchange station

At Dudley Hill there was a further junction with a
line to Low Moor. In this way Leeds could be approached
from the Manchester lines (L&Y) without taking the
run through Bowling tunnel and then the Bradford
avoiding line at Bowling Junction which only
joined the Leeds line on the western side of
Laisterdyke and the Quarry Gap.

  1. Hi there, sorry, but your description of these photographs is wrong. The line running to the right goes to dudley hill, morley etc. The line running to the left is the pudsey loop. These photos were taken from arkwright street bridge and are easy to match up with the houses in the photos if you stand on the bridge and take a look. There's also a photo on the internet viewing this very location from the reverse, i.e. the bridge just after arkwright street that's long since gone.

    1. Here's a map from 1900 that should hopefully illustrate. Note the S.B (Signal box) notation just in front of arkwright street bridge and then picture standing on the bridge and looking down at the signal box. If you were viewing the signal box from that location you'd be looking straight at the dudley hill and pudsey loop convergence.
