Although initially designed for heavy freight work the 9F's did some sterling work on Passenger turns with heavy Saturday excursion work. Most notably this was seen on the old Somerset and Dorset line where they were very popular with crews and had little difficulty with the steep grades of the Mendip hills.
This is of course seen in preservation non the least with NYM engine 92214 now named Cock O The North to whom I am grateful for the photograph prior to naming. Remember to take a look at them in person, trains are still running. To see when visit http://www.nymr.co.uk/ Withoutt them there would be no live steam trains to see and feed our interest.
