Bradford Exchange station. The old one

Shortly before closure and demolition a DMU leaves
for Leeds

They were often viewed as dark and gloomy

For me they were always places of joy at the
prospect of a journey

Jubilees were the most common big engines

With Fowler and Standard tanks taking the local
strain.

  1. Bradford Exchange . . . December 1947 9pm N1 0-6-2 on footplate to Wakefield . . . join London train from Leeds to King's Cross . . . Waterloo to Southampton . . . RMS Mauritania across N. Atlantic in December to New York . . . rough journey for a 14 yr. old.
